WEI ZHANG

Wei Zhang is a filmmaker and visual artist with over a decade of experience, dedicated to exploring cross-cultural narratives through the moving image.

About Me

Wei Zhang (b. 1991, China) is a filmmaker and visual artist based in Glasgow, Scotland. As a PhD student at Kingston School of Art, Zhang engages in practice-based research delving into the dynamics of migration, gender, bodily transformation, and the limitations of language in artists’ moving image. Influenced by Oriental monster culture, posthumanism, gender theories, and post-colonialism, their work reflects a deep connection to Chinese cultural heritage. Utilising collage techniques, hybrid media, and experimental soundscapes, Zhang creates multi-layered narratives that bridge personal and collective histories. Their work has been showcased at exhibitions such as Glasgow International 2024, Adelaide Fringe 2025, and Bangkok Biennial 2020.
